"JUST ACT Launches 3 years Mangrove Restoration project in Balangharr

Janjanbureh Uniting Sustainable Tourism and Community Training JUST ACT on Saturday 21st August Officially launched the Mangrove Restoration project at the Governor's office in Janjanbureh.

Funding from German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development

through Nature Friends International Germany office

The launching was presided over by the regional Governor of CRR Hon Sheriff Abba Sanyang, and in attendance were representatives from National Environmental Agency, Regional Forestry Department, EBA, Regional Youth and Sport Coordinator, Regional Youth Committee, The Young and some relevant authorities. The project is geared towards reforestation of mangrove and strengthening of local capacities for mangrove protection to secure the livelihood of people in coastal areas and to contribute to climate protection in The Gambia.

JUST ACT has identified the Balangharr community in Lower Saloum (bardered in red) in Central River Region North for this restoration project.

The project will run for a period of three years (2021-2024) and will have central focuses on mangrove restoration, climate change education, awareness raising at schools, exchange visits with partner organizations in Senegal and will create job opportunities for young people and women.Naturefriends International"
