The rise of celebrity culture is a theme that has attracted a significant amount of attention within the realm of sport and culture. In this article, I endeavor to focus on Alagie Janneh commonly call Vargas who captured the hearts of soccer-lovers regionally.
Since his childhood, Ba Alagie has forged the weapons to become a football superstar. He is always looking forward with a ferocious ambition and a formidable mental strength. In just under 3 years he had made a name for himself, and never has so much been expected of him.
Janjanbureh being one of the town’s that boast of producing great players in the region - the likes of Alieu Sohna, Basiru Gomez, Janko Foon, Kaka Dambelly, and many others, and now Ba Alagie in the realm of greatness. In 2016 he captained JUSTACT to their first Nawettan glory and again win his second title in 2018.
In terms of his maturity and determination, there was no-one at his age of an equivalent standards. Alagie always wanted to be the best, to be heard and shoulders above everyone else. This year (2019) he is the captain of Armitage School team that competes in the inter school regional football championship and now qualified to national championships.
The young playmaker scored his first goal for Janjanbureh town team in a competitive match against Karantaba in third division qualifiers. He was the revelation of the Nawettan last year in JUSTACT’s dominance, but his impact hasn’t diminished one bit in every single match he played, he hasn’t just been phenomenal; he’s made his teammates better and still young, he had turned out for his team, town, school, region - a dramatic rise.
Today he carries the hopes of Armitage and JUSTACT on his shoulders. He has become the key player and in Janjanbureh he is seen as a breath of fresh air and his unveiling to the national call up is imminent.
